Join us as panelists from Washington State University (Bob Eggart), Eastern Washington University (Shawn King) and Community Colleges of Spokane (John Gillette) will discuss:

  • An update on Capital Improvement Plans and associated projects. Specifically, major projects occurring in the next 1-5 years

  • Trends in higher education that may affect how future buildings are designed and constructed.

  • Goals for growth/enrollment projections.

  • Updates on best ways consultants and contractors can stand out among competition.


Bob Eggart joined Washington State University in January 2015 as Lead Project Manager for Urban Campuses and Ag Extension locations.  Residing at the Spokane Health Sciences Campus, Bob provides oversight of a team of project managers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of major and minor capital projects for all of the Urban Campus and Ag Extension Locations.  At the Spokane Health Sciences Campus, Bob manages and maintains the strategic campus master plan through ongoing facility/infrastructure planning and coordination.  Bob works closely with University technical staff, campus administration and leadership, as well as, outside consultants and contractors to ensure the facilities and infrastructure continue to provide world class environments for our students and staff.  

Bob’s experience spans over 20 years in the design and construction of buildings and infrastructure in both the public and private sectors.   Bob is a Certified Professional of the Design-Build Institute of America and an active committee member of the PNW Inland Chapter of Design-Build Institute of America

Previously, Bob worked for WSU Capital Planning & Development in Pullman and before rejoining WSU, Bob was an Operations Manager for McKinstry’s INW Energy department in Spokane for several years.  Bob holds a Bachelors of Applied Science in Engineering Technology with a Minor in Business Administration from Lewis-Clark State College, an Associate of Applied Science Drafting Technology from Lewis-Clark State College and an Associate of Applied Arts from Walla Walla Community College.


Shawn King is Associate Vice President for Facilities and Planning at Eastern Washington University.  Shawn graduated from Washington State University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Science in Construction Management.  He also received his Masters of Business Administration degree from Eastern Washington University in 1996.  Previous to Eastern, Shawn worked for Siebe/Robertshaw Controls Systems and also was owner operator of his own mechanical contracting business in the Spokane area.

As AVP for Facilities and Planning at Eastern, he is responsible for capital planning, capital budgeting and project implementation, campus maintenance and operations, space planning and development and university sustainability.  He has been with Eastern since 1992, and in this current position since 2003.


John Gillette is the District Director of Facilities for the Community Colleges of Spokane.  He is responsible for 50 buildings and nearly 300 acres on two campuses.  He administers the District’s physical plant including maintenance, operations, custodial services, fleet operations and maintenance, local and state capital construction project, and property management.  John previously served 30 years in the United States Air Force in aircraft maintenance and in various senior leadership positions. 

 

Craig Crowley from DCI Engineers will be our moderator for this panel. Craig joined the DCI team in 1997, right after completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Idaho.  Today Craig is the managing Principal of the Spokane office of 50 employees.  Craig has provided excellent structural design services for a variety of projects in the commercial, governmental, and industrial sectors.  Within the industry, Craig has a great reputation for being an innovative designer and using the newest construction technologies to deliver cost-effective solutions.  In fact, he is so highly regarded within the Spokane community that he was named one of the “Top 20 Under 40” by Inland Business Catalyst magazine in 2008.
